Barry is a General Partner and member of GSA’s Investment Committee.  Barry has particular expertise and relationships with buyout, mezzanine and other structured debt funds in the U.S. and Europe ranging form small niche players to global mega funds.  He works closely with all GSA clients and has a primary management responsibility for three clients.  He is active on a number of advisory boards, and is an important contributor to analyzing and monitoring emerging trends in global private equity markets.

Barry joined GSA in 2001 after five years as Senior Investment Officer of CalPERS Alternative Investment Management Program, where he oversaw the development of the program from $1.4 billion invested to $9 billion invested and $19 billion of commitments, and led investments in the holding companies of global private equity groups such as The Carlyle Group.  Previously, over a decade with The Travelers Companies, Barry managed private equity investments, served as Director of Research for Travelers Common Stock Group, and was responsible for the foreign investment portfolio.  At Connecticut Mutual, Barry served as the Senior Investment Officer responsible for Alternative Investments and Private Equity placements, initiated a private equity program, and completed the organization's first direct private equity, mezzanine debt and partnership transactions.  Earlier, Barry worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
